We believe in connecting rural India to upstream markets by building a last-mile supply chain network working through challenges such as poor infrastructure, government intervention and lack of financing support.
In India today, only 15% of milk produced is marketed through formal systems, thus limiting the scope of processing, value addition and better market penetration in the regional and international markets. On one end of the spectrum, the rural producers across India (dairy & agri farmers) do not have a channel to sell their produce, there is no supporting infrastructure to secure the quality of their produce, nor do they have a channel to identify prospective buyers offering them market prices on their produce. On the other end of the spectrum, institutions do not have a cost efficient channel to reach out to the rural producers.
We believe there is a clear market opportunity for organizing the last mile rural supply chain by aggregating the rural production base and linking them to markets. This is primarily driven by three significant trends that India is expected to see over the next two decades.
Rising income levels of urban & rural households. |
Quadrupling of household consumption making India one of the largest consumer market in the world by 2025. |
Increased commitment by the government: |

Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. |
Multi-billion dollar Bharath Nirman plan for rural infrastructure investment (roads, water, power & communications). |
The National Rural Health Mission (2005 – 2012), which is expected to increase public health spending from 0.9% of GDP to 2 to 3% of GDP. |

To create a rural household-facing last mile supply chain network for the dairy sector and leverage on it to transform supply chains across multiple rural sectors. |
To achieve leadership in poverty alleviation and wealth creation in rural India by providing Affordability, Access and Availability for the rural poor to a range of products and services by leveraging on local knowledge and manpower, global science, technology and markets by establishing strong brand equity, direct relationship with the rural community and an infrastructure reaching every rural citizen in every district that MYA operates. |
